Memoirs of a Geisha
My suggestion: Avoid "Memoirs of a Geisha" at all costs. It's a travesty! I enjoyed the audiobook version immensly, and was very excited about seeing the film. Therefore, I visited Best Buy and shelled out $20 with great anticipation. Instead of a treat, I experienced massive disappointment watching it. It is Hollywood at its most ridiculous and garish extreme. - 2006-04-14 17:12:00

Lexx: Season 1, Episode 1 - I Worship His Shadow
Lexx is ... shall we say, a little different. It's a show where the heros are a dead assassin, a half lizard female sex slave (whose libido went into a severed robot head) and a cowardly captain who's a traitor known throughout the whole galaxy. It's canadian. That must explain it. Lots of Lexx info out there, though, if you look for it. - 2006-02-06 03:11:00

Rang De Basanti (Paint it Yellow)
I am not a movie critic. I am not a professional reviewer. I am not one of those "mai ka laal" types. I am also not the India of my mother's type. I have my mother and father and I just watch movies for time pass. This week's time pass was Rang De Basanti (RDB), Rakesh Mehra's second movie after the over-intelligent Aks. - 2006-01-26 01:09:00

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (trailer) is what could be called a chick flick, I guess, although I hate that term. I happened to like the movie. The main reason I watched it is Alexis Bledel, because I'm a huge Gilmore Girls fan. - 2006-01-23 09:05:00

Ocean\'s Twelve
Ocean's Twelve (trailer) is a sequel, and like most sequels, it isn't as good as the first (Ocean's Eleven.) That's not to say it was a bad movie, though. It was infinitely better than Transporter 2, for example. The cast from the first movie return - 2006-01-22 21:09:24.743185

Syriana
Syriana (trailer) is a movie that should be seen by a lot of people but won't be seen by a lot of people. It's not full of car chases or explosions, and the plot is a little slow, but it tells an important story - perhaps several of them. - 2006-01-20 18:02:00

Transporter 2
While this movie wasn't as bad as some others I've seen recently, it was still pretty bad. The car chases were ok until the transporter's vehicle became a mix of KITT, the General Lee and Herbie the Love Bug. The fight scenes were very reminescent of Jackie Chan. Overall, though, Transporter 2 (trailer) isn't the worst movie I've seen in a while. I give it two out of five. - 2006-01-20 17:01:00

Serenity
This is a blend of Sci-Fi and western. It's a good mix, though, by Joss Whedon, who did the Buffy show. Serenity (trailer) is based on the Firefly series, which ran briefly on the Sci-Fi channel. - 2006-01-19 11:07:00

The Man
I like both Eugene Levy and Samuel L. Jackson, but The Man (trailer) really sucks. They almost meshed a little bit, but there was nothing holding the whole movie together. The characters seemed really two-dimensional. The plot was your basic Bev Hills Cop slash Lethal Weapon, but it needed something to take it over the top. - 2006-01-19 07:03:00

Jarhead
Jarhead (trailer) was a pretty decent movie. That is, politically I don't think it swerved too far to the left or the right. It's not your typical war movie, though. There's heart in the movie. A marines' heart, perhaps, but a heart nonetheless. The movie is based on Jarhead : A Marine's Chronicle of the Gulf War and Other Battles by Anthony Swofford. - 2006-01-17 07:03:00

NOTE: This review is focused for those of you who read the book The Chronicles of Narnia (trailer) but have yet to see the movie, so it does contain *SPOILERS.* You have been warned. - 2006-01-12 19:03:00

When All's Said and Done, King Kong 2005 Delivers a B+
KING KONG 2005: A review by Vince Turano The story of King Kong is well known by all, so I'll just focus on the points that I believe give insight into this new version of a classic story told by one of the most critically acclaimed filmakers of this era. As a die hard, life long fan of King Kong I write this review with a heavy heart and some mixed emotions. My expectations were extremely high, so I must confess despite a B+, I am somewhat disappointed. The character King Kong himself (digitally captured by Andy Serkis), gets a resounding A+. His performance is off the Richter scale. Naomi Watts gets an A+; she is emerging as a top caliber actress and carries much of the film. - 2006-01-11 23:26:00.050823

Sunset Boulevard
What a film! I had only ever heard great things about it, but I never got around to seeing \"Sunset Boulevard\" until a couple of months ago. It is definitely a CLASSIC! This is a perfect mix of 1950's Hollywood and film noir. A true must see! - 2006-01-08 22:09:30.396393

TOM-YUM KOONG
From the director of Ong-Bak and the hero of Ong Bak comes another action packed adventure, titled Tom Yum Goong. This time around, the movie somehow lacks the spice and originality as compared to Ong Bak. In short, Tom Yum Goong is a story of Kham (Tony Jaa) whose elephants are being captured to Australia to be part of the exotic crusine for the diners in a restaurant. - 2006-01-08 22:09:30.367684

Siren
Much of the movies we see are made by big budget companies that steer the entertainment business world with their films that are marketed on the television, newspapers, and internet. Independent films are made with low budgets and pure acting ability. Big money movies don't depend on acting ability due to their pyrotechnics and special effects that mask the requirement for a truly good film. It's bad enough that movie theaters are in their 3rd year of consecutive declining attendance. - 2006-01-08 22:09:30.005191
